One of the overlooked “Things to do in Colonial Williamsburg“, are allotting time to visit the Art Museums. My family and I were in Colonial Williamsburg on a 5 day pass and we were guilty of overlooking these amazing museums.
It was our last day before leaving the area before heading on to Fredricksburg, VA and we had about 2 hours to left to do “something”. We headed to the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg because we’d seen everything else.
When I walked in, I was floored! These are some of the best museums I’ve ever seen and clearly, it was more like an all day activity for the serious museum goer. I immediately regretted waiting so long.
We arrived at the Art Museums by way the Public Hospital Museum then headed downstairs via elevator to the other museums. Here’s just a taste of what’s there. You really need to visit their website and see ALL that’s there. There’s something for everyone for sure!
You’ll find a cafe to enjoy snacks, lunch, beverages and take a rest off and on as there’s so much to see.
I took a LOT of pictures and it’s too much to try and organize them all. For this reason, they are randomly posted here. My purpose was to give you a glimpse of all the kinds of things you’ll see.
As you can see, there’s SO much to see and something for everyone. This is just a touch of some of the categories on display. I can’t urge you strongly enough to not put the Art Museums Colonial Williamsburg at the end or “leftover” of your visit to the area. Plan to spend at least half a day unless you’re a museum goer, then a full day is in order.
You’ll want to visit the Public Hospital Museum as well. It’s much smaller and you can easily get through it in 20 minutes, but it will touch your heart and make you tremendously grateful that we’ve come a long way and now offer modern ways to help those with mental illness.
