If you’re looking for the best horseback riding in Phoenix, you must check out the unique menu of trail rides at Ponderosa Stables.
(And yes, that’s me in the orange shirt ready to ride!)
On my vacation to Phoenix, Arizona, I ventured out to spend time in the beautiful Sonoran Desert and find a good steakhouse. I got some recommendations from the locals and it lead me to the Ponderosa Stables unanimously.
What an awesome adventure! I’ve been on many horseback rides and trails but nothing like this. It’s an entire unique experience.
You saddle up on a horse that’s just right for you and great staff lead the way into the Sunset toward the summit of the South Mountain of the Sonoran Desert. There’s no traffic, no roads, no people.
It gets quiet, nothing but the sounds of your horse and the birds. You see wildlife skittering here and there. Desert rabbits, quail and beautiful desert flowers and Saquaro cactus are what you’re looking for.
Your horse knows how to manage the ups and downs and gullies winding up and around the mountain and gently follows along the trail as you pass through rock formations worth capturing on film. You emerge to the top of the mountain where you have panoramic views of Phoenix below. You can’t help but be in awe of your the surroundings.
On their website, they describe their tour as this:
Slowly you rise in elevation, surrounded by beautiful desert flowers and towering Saguaro cactus. Desert rabbits and quail dart across the narrow, less- trodden trail passing through intricate rock formations, leaving the city of Phoenix behind. The air is clear and dry as you pass through the spectacular scenery of the Sonoran Desert. Phoenix sprawls across the valley floor as you view it from the quiet of the hills. You are in the desert southwest, experiencing it, and seeing it the way it was meant to be seen… on the back of a horse.
I couldn’t have said it better. This describes exactly my experience.
So that’s unique in and of itself, but then add this…
Best Horseback Riding In Phoenix Offers Unique Steak House Trail Ride
Your trail ride ends at T-Bones Steakhouse where you tie up your horse and enjoy a true cowboy dinner. It was the best steak dinner I believe I’ve ever had!
So, I could smell the steak rounding the bend into the mountain air and boy was I hungry!
As we approached the front entrance of T-Bone’s, the grill was blazin and steaks and burgers were on!
I ordered the filet mignon, corn on the cob and baked potato, you can see here. Do I look like a happy cowgirl? Ok, maybe not a cowgirl but I was happy!
After a relaxing and fabulous, “perfect” dinner, we head to the coral and mount our horses for the 1 hour ride back to Ponderosa Stables.
This time however, it’s dark. The sites and extraordinary. Our horses know exactly where they are and where they are going, following each other and lead by the awesome staff at Ponderosa stables.
You can see the entire city of Phoenix with all the lights below and the brilliant star-lit sky above. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this. I had returned a second time to Phoenix, and did this same tour with my new friends. I just couldn’t help myself!
I highly recommend next time you get to Arizona, if you’re looking for the best horseback riding in Phoenix, take the Ponderosa Stable trail rides. You won’t be disappointed.
